AADHAAR Local Languages Update Online

13 different local languages are supported for address in AADHAAR: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Procedure to change local language in AADHAAR is made quick, hassle free and user friendly by UIDAI. When the applicant migrate from one state to another in India for work or other reasons, the local language of that state may change. After the applicant request for change in address, the local language if different, will also be updated along with it. Applicant can request change of local language online on UIDAI's Self Service Update Portal without having to physically go to AADHAAR enrolment / update centre. There is no cap on how many times local language change can be requested in AADHAAR online. A valid working mobile number must be linked to AADHAAR to change local language in AADHAAR online. If the applicant did not mention his / her mobile number at the time of AADHAAR enrolment or did not link it later at AADHAAR enrolment / update centre, click here to link mobile number to AADHAAR.

Applicant can also request change of local language offline by visiting a nearby AADHAAR enrolment / update centre with his / her AADHAAR and authenticate using his / her biometrics to change local language in AADHAAR. Click here for the list of AADHAAR centres near you.

Applicant will be charged Rs. 50 to change local language in AADHAAR. This local language change processing fees is non-refundable.

To change / update / correct local language in AADHAAR online, follow these steps:

  • Click on the "Login" button in the myAadhaar welcome screen.

  • Enter the applicant's 12 digit "AADHAAR Number". If the applicant has lost / forgotten his / her AADHAAR Number, click here to retrieve lost / forgotten AADHAAR Number.
  • Enter the Captcha Verification code exactly as is shown in the auto-generated image on the screen. If the auto-generated Captcha Verification code is not readable, press the refresh icon to generate a new Captcha Verification code.
  • Click on the "Send OTP" button; this will send an OTP (One Time Password) to the applicant's registered mobile number.

  • Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number and click on the "Login" button.

  • Upon successful login, "Services" page is shown with available online AADHAAR services. Click on the "Update Aadhaar Online" service button.

  • On the "How it Works?" page, carefully read the instructions on what information can be updated online in AADHAAR and how to update them and click on the "Proceed To Update Aadhaar" button.
  • Click and select "Language" option from the available data field(s) that can be updated in AADHAAR online and click on the "Proceed To Update Aadhaar" button.
  • First section displays the current local language details; in the second section select the alternate local language that needs to be changed to.
  • Select the "New Local Language to be Updated" and click on the "Next" button.
  • Confirm the selected new local language in the Preview screen and proceed to make local language change processing fees payment.
  • Upon successful online local language change request submission, a URN (Update Request Number) (such as "1234/12345/12345") will be displayed on the screen and also sent via SMS to the applicant's registered mobile number. Save this URN (Update Request Number) securely as it will be required to check AADHAAR update status online. Click here to check local language change in AADHAAR status online.

Applicant can cancel the local language change request from the "My self-service Request" section in the myAadhaar welcome screen dashboard if the change request is not already picked up for further processing. If cancelled, the fees paid will be refunded back to the applicant's account within 21 days.
